The past year has been great for the music industry. We’re seeing a lot of new faces, and hearing fresh sounds. To me, it’s especially very noticeable how much the mainstream public started embracing and loving Scandinavian music. The obvious example is of course Zara Larsson. She blew up in no-time and now skyrockets into the music charts with every song she releases. Astrid S is not quite on that level of world domination yet, but she’s definitely getting there. The 20-year old Norwegian singer has recently released a new EP called ‘Party’s Over‘, and it’s very promising.
Ever since discovering Astrid S when she opened up at a concert for Troye Sivan, I have been in love. Her music just has something special to it. For example, the song ‘Jump‘ on her self-titled EP from last year just gives me chills every time the beat drops. It’s one of those songs I never get bored of.
The combination of pop music with some electronic influences works really well for her. She collaborated with Norwegian DJ Matoma in 2015 on ‘Running Out‘ and it’s literally such a good fit. The electronic vibes always keep returning in her own music. But she also shows that she’s very all-round. On Shawn Mendes‘ song ‘Air‘ she really shows another side and it’s amazing.
Bloodstream is one of the singles from Party’s Over EP.
But now I’m just rambling about all of her previous work. What really matters is her brand new EP ‘Party’s Over‘. And let me straight up tell you this: the party is just getting started for Astrid S. Usually I’m not really excited about EP’s, because they are like only 4 tracks and definitely not very cohesive. But with 6 amazing tracks, this EP almost feels like a full studio album. It just all makes sense, from start to finish.
Picking a favorite from 6 songs is difficult. I really like all of them. My recommendation is to just listen all of them. And of course, if you fall in love with her, you will definitely want to check out all of her previous work too. Anyway, I’m really excited to see what else Astrid S will bring this year. I also really can’t wait to see her perform at her sold out show in Brussels on October 14th. It’s going to be a real party 🙂
